I really loved it.
So there's a thrilleresque train station line dance in the end. You won't even care...you'll love Jamal anyway.
I've been stressing lately about work, money, work, money, my kid, my other kid, and my little kid, the health of all of those kids, homework (6th grade homework, I'm not in school...don't get crazy), my overgrown landscaping, lack of landscaping, lack of exercise, laundry, Obama (just kidding, but I thought I'd throw it in, 'tis the season), food storage (kidding again. Sort of) parenting time (or again, lack thereof), office politics, future planning (again, lack thereof), raising three daughters in the unplanned future..................blah...blah...blah. You get the picture. The everyday stressors in everyone's lives. We all choose our battles, I've just had a little harder time lately trying to pick and choose. They all seem so grand. Especially the laundry.
So then I go see this movie. **Yes it has an R-rating, and yes I should have put "I watch too many R-rated-movies" on my aforementioned list, but I like movies, and most of the good ones are R-rated. When I was little my parents would just say "don't repeat anything you see or hear in this movie" and we could watch *some* R-rated movies (that's why we've all turned out so well - just kidding mom, I don't think JAWS did any permanent damage, except for the fact that I won't go into the ocean - and that is mostly due to the Mexico stingray incident). I don't use this one with my kids, as an R-rating these days is pretty much NC-17 or X. (The FOX channel is at least PG-13 and don't get me started on FX). ANYHOW, I didn't know much about this movie going into it. I'll admit that once the Oscar nominations come out I am much more likely to see the films that get lots of cred - so I went to see this one.
Afterwards...
I read that people who actually live in the shantytowns where it was filmed don't really like it - or rather, don't even have the money to SEE the film, as they live on $3 a day.
And I'm the one stressing about money.

i loved this film...second favorite next to vicky cristina barcelona (but you already know of my immense love for this movie. it's better than coffee in my book, and that's saying something).
i was quite fond of the thriller-esque dance moves in the end.
one thing...did you think jamal looked like our cousin dayson? i thought the resemblance was uncanny. if dayson were indian, he'd have a twin in jamal.
yes, i just said that.
go see gran torino next...i cried!
Vicky Cristina is coming out on DVD on Tuesday! yay!!
Um...we watched Pineapple Express last night. So no judgment here :)
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one freaking out about a million things, including kids, working out, balancing job and family, and the future. I swear Drew's life Credo is "It will all work out eventually" and sometimes I wonder if it really will.
but at least now I know what movie to watch next!
