I never looked forward to Chloe's date of birth before she was born. Her due date was the second week of January, 2008, so October 9, 2007 meant N-o-t-h-i-n-g to me. Not a thing. Until that day came. After that day, there were months of blurry days and nights. Medicines and doctors. Nurses and nonsense
(no offense to the nurses - we love you dearly. Except for the one that smelled like cigarettes and Italian dressing. Nasty). Oh, and the one that called a baby a little sh*t because his veins kept collapsing, but I digress...
JANUARY 19, 2008. That was a scary day. One of Chloe's completely awesome primary nurses, Nicole, had written out Chloe's schedule - and how to care for her. It's hard to leave the hospital after you've been there watching others take care of your child daily, for MONTHS. You get to know them, you get to know your baby through them.
Alimentum 26 cal. -- Xopenex 2 puffs, 3 a.m. 9 a.m. 3 p.m. 9 p.m.--Flovent 2 puffs, 9 a.m. 9 p.m. -- Aldactazide 2.6 m. 9 a.m. 9 p.m. -- Polyvisol 9 a.m. 9 p.m. -- Actigall 9a.m. 9 p.m. -- Reglan 3 a.m. 9 a.m. 3 p.m. 9 p.m. Axid 9 a.m. 9 p.m.
And then there were the monitors. The oxygen and the apnea. The chronic lung disease. The risk for RSV and the rickets. The follow up appointments. The unknown future.
So now it was up to me to do it. All of it. As scary as this day was - and as much as I was afraid to bring her home and start the care all on my own - it was one of the
happiest days of my life.
Because she
MADE IT HOME.

It has been 2 years. Two long and short years. Today, you would NEVER know that she started out as such a sick little girl.

She will always be
my sweet little baby :)

She is so cute. Her past is in the past, not forgotten, but gone and you are all stronger for it. Congrats on 2 years of being home! BTW you can just use my name you don't have to describe me as smelling of cigarettes and italian dressing.
chloe's story is such an amazing story. i am happy to know her, to have watched her change from the little tiny baby in the hospital to the silly active little girl today, and to know her amazing mother. mandy, you are an example of dedication and strong will to me. thank you.
