Obama speech. No comment

As I picked up my girls on Friday from school, I was stopped by a FOX 10 reporter. I thought she was going to ask me something about a robbery in the area (not that there was one, but crime always attracts attention), or maybe about how a man drove past the softball field and yelled something derogatory and insulting to my little softball players, or maybe what our plans were for labor day, or maybe something I knew something about. But no...

Cute little reporter: "Excuse me ma'am, could you tell me what your opinion is about your children's school *not* showing the President Obama speech?"

Me: "I have no opinion."

Cute little reporter: "Really? You don't care about the video your school is not going to show your kids?"

Me: "No, I don't."

After I pulled away, I thought of about a million other ways this could have been handled. My girls chimed in with "mom, you know that's going to be on TV and you don't have an opinion?" Nice example. I do have an opinion, which is that if I KNEW what the content of the speech were going to be, or what direction the message was going to go, I'd have an opinion about it. My current opinion: let us get a preview and then we can decide if we want our kids to see it. Is there a motive behind the speech? **Probably not. Would I like to know before I show my kids? Certainly.

After all, they are MY kids.

**Dad, you know I really think that the President is going to brainwash our children into health care advocates and socialists, but you can't say this on FOX 10 news...**

Yeah we have had more debates on that upcoming speech in my high school than I care to count. But the consensus is that he's talking about the importance of education, so in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with that! :) We do have the option of showing the speech, but I think I will... wouldn't miss a chance to watch TV in class for the world!

The speech transcript was put out there today...you can read it. I haven't yet, but I've heard it's pretty good. No brainwashing and such. Check it out if you want.

I would have let my girls see it regardless, but there was no text available to me at the time of the reporter doing her IN YOUR FACE interview. My point was merely that I like to know what my options are before making decisions. The comment at the bottom was based on small town St. David humor. There is a great need for sarcasm font.

i was in tucson when JFK jr. died in a plane crash...i was accosted at target (yes, i am a target fan from way back) by a reporter who wanted to know how i would deal with the loss of such a poignant public figure. when i replied, "no comment," she asked me if i even knew who JFK jr. was...do i look stupid? it was sad. i feel bad for the family...but i had nothing to say...i thought of a lot of things i could have said ON THE WAY HOME!!!
