Last month the Ped was all over us to get all of the eight million blood tests completed because they wanted to be sure that Chloe's levels were okay. We can only do so many blood tests, and every time I thought we were done, they'd call and say they needed "just one more" which always turned into just 3 more. Anyhow, her last test showed that she had elevated prolactin levels which generally means there is something wrong with her pituitary gland (aka tumor). I'm not a big fan of the word tumor, even if it is benign (call me crazy). The Endo scheduled an MRI for Chloe. (I'm also not a big fan of pointless tests, IVs or hospitals at this point) I agreed that she would do the MRI. After I got home I looked online about what it could mean, what they could find, etc. I found that her elevated prolactin level could be linked to one of her meds. I was pretty optimistic about it and called the Endo. I explained that since she is on metoclopramide (I thought I'd throw in a big word to sound smart) that could be the reason her prolactin was elevated. They humored me and let me discontinue the medicine for a few weeks. Chloe had blood work done again 3 weeks later and what do you know....her levels are FINE and she doesn't need an MRI at all.
SO - what does this mean? We have to do a follow up in 3 months, but she may be just fine. This was pretty much the last big issue we were dealing with since leaving the hospital in January. She has done so well in every aspect - breathing, growth, etc. I'm so glad that the shots and blood work are slowly going away. It's hard to take her - and it's getting harder the older she gets. She has an appointment with the GI next week or so...so we'll see if she can discontinue one more medication. That would be superb.
She's trying to hold her bottle more and more...and when she gets frustrated she pretty much gouges out her eyes. She's like little baby scissor hands. I swear her nails grow over the course of an hour. It's that nasty polyvisol vitamin she takes I'm sure.
