The Sunny Side of Truth...

So.............Tonight as we were watching TV we saw one of those "Sunny side of Truth" commercials about smoking. Most of the time I think these commercials are funny and odd -- and they seem to get the point across. Um, not this time.

You can watch it yourself at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypn3xpvA1eQ

I don't really like seeing tiny, sickly babies jumping out of incubators.

I get that they aren't targeting premature babies -- but the mothers who smoke during pregnancy...whatever. Seeing little cartoon babies that can "fit in the pocket of your jeans" is really not that funny to me... neither is hearing them described as "limp", "scrawny", "scary", "like a gerbil but not as hairy", "little, puckered, innie, weanie, shriveled, tiny babies." I feel like it dehumanized small, sick infants, and I think there should be a better way to get the point across without using this terminology to describe the low birthweight infant...
I'll be making a phone call to the American Legacy Foundation. I'm sure someone would like to talk about (defend) this offensive commercial.
PS. I'm not a smoker.
