Chloe had her follow up eye exam with Dr. O'neil yesterday to check out her eyes. In the NICU she had 3 or 4 appointments with him to check for ROP issues. She was at risk for eye disease because she was on high levels of oxygen, and on the vent forever (okay, 10 weeks). At one point when Chloe was very sick Dr. O'neil said he'd be surprised if she didn't have some sort of eye disease. While in the NICU each time Dr. O'neil would see her he'd dilate her eyes and then stick a huge metal object in there to pry her eye lids open...Chloe's heart rate would drop and she'd stop breathing (which would also be my reaction if someone stuck a huge metal thing in my eye)... so I wasn't really thrilled about her appointment yesterday. Luckily, they put in the drops and he just had to look into her eyes with his light and little magnifying deal for like 2.5 seconds.... He said she's in the clear and he'll see her in THREE years. I am SO happy that she doesn't have any outstanding issues (lazy eye, cross eyes, etc).... I'm also SO happy that they don't need to see her for three more years! That's one less doctor she needs to see :)
