My chiropractor (aka dr. dreamy) advised me NOT to run. You hear that all you crazy marathoners?
It's not awesome for your joints.
And although some may say he's not a "real' doctor, I think he knows a little something about joints.
So now I don't have to fulfill item #212 on my list of things to do before I die:
Run a marathon.
Phew.
*Although, he did say that if I were to seriously take up running he and I would become good friends (due to the injuries). Maybe it's worth the appointments...

Interesting perspective. I don't profess to be the "know-it-all" marathoner, but having just completed one, I do have some personal experience to share. I found that with proper stretching, footwear and training, I remained injury free during the entire training and race (minus the sprained ankle...which was a fluke and not joint or running related). I just received an email with links to a few studies comparing runners' joints to non-active individuals' joints. I can send it your way if you like. Anyway, in one study the inactives had 2x greater joint deterioration than the runners did! Anyway, I found the studies fascinating...thought maybe you would too!
haha my chairopractor (sp?) said the same thing. But he was not so dreamy. I just put more yoga and pilates classes into my life, and I have had no problems since I started running. But I also run no more than 3 days a week. I am SO anti-running DAILY. THAT is dumb. I want to see a photo of McDreamy!!
He did suggest I incorporate yoga into my workout routine. I told him I would but only if he was the teacher of said yoga class.
PS. I don't think all marathoners are crazy...Just most :)
