We got outed

So today we decided for the FIRST TIME EVER to go out. I thought that the Coffee Shop would be a great first outing, as you can sit outside and not be cooped up with the rest of the world and their germs. Today the girls didn't have school, so I figured the least I could do would be to take them to lunch. Lunch was fine - followed by a short walk around Agritopia with my girls. We then decided to go to Target to develop some photos for the baby's room.
Target is on the "do not take your baby there" list the nurses drilled into my head. During RSV season I should not be taking her to "shopping malls, grocery stores, movie theatres or church." I think Target is somewhere between shopping mall and grocery store because you can wander aimlessly around and also buy milk there.
I left Chloe in her carseat and just sat the carseat inside the cart hoping that she'd just sleep through the 15 minute dash to develop photos. We got into the store with her covered, no one could see in and no one could see out. I got the pictures done in about 10 minutes and we went to the closest checkout line to get out of there. At checkout Chloe started crying (she was starving) so I gave Maya her bottle while I tried to pay for the pics. Maya had to get a toy out from under the cart so I propped her bottle with a blanket so we could checkout smoothly and quietly. That's right, for 2.5 seconds I propped my choking hazard of a baby's bottle into her mouth in order to get out of a store quickly.
So. The next thing I hear is," Oh, look how big she is! She looks great!" I knew I knew the girl from somewhere, I just could not put my finger on it. It took me a second and then I realized it was a nurse from the NICU. I was busted.
I just tried to pay and get out of there asap. I could picture her going back to Banner Desert and telling all of Cpod how I took my respiratory challenged baby into Target, (aka RSV town) in the peak of flu season. AND I also had the baby's bottle propped. Nice!
I told Maya that I thought this nurse would do this (gossip, basically) and Maya said, "Nurses don't do that mom, they don't gossip."
Uh-huh.
I really figured that 10 minutes in Target could be no worse than 30 minutes at the Sonora Lab waiting room...but that's of course the last time I take the baby OUT anywhere for at least another 2 months. It's just not worth the risk... we do NOT want her to end up in the PICU!
I'll be honest... it was nice to get outside - to go into public with my new baby that no one knows I have. She's too cute to leave home.

Agritopia? Is that where you live? You're so close to us! And I'm sure those 10 minutes won't have any kind of negative impact... But isn't getting caught like that the worst feeling? When Aydn was only a few weeks old and still not allowed to be out (RSV season), I ran to the store with him and - of course! - ran into a friend from church who knew we weren't allowed out yet. Whoops. Since you're so close to us, let me know if ever you need anything. I'd be happy to run to the store for you! Anything to help keep that little angel healthy (and you sane!) =)
