Fav Doc

Back when Chloe was sprung, er, discharged - Jan. 19, 2008

Chloe had a GI appointment today at Banner, so we decided to stop by and see her fav NICU doctor. We've missed him every time we have stopped by the NICU to say hello, so we were happy that he was there today. I really loved seeing him talk to her in such a happy, caring way. It must be very difficult for the NICU doctors to restrain their feelings, (especially when a mom like me is sitting there everyday staring at every move they make). He told her that she gave him a few ulcers, which I don't doubt a bit. My mom said it was nice to see him hold her and talk to her -- it was much different than the professional doctor who *tried* to put on a happy face, even when delivering less than happy news. He does such a wonderful job with the littlest people. Even though the circumstances weren't the greatest, we are lucky to have met such a terrific doc :) Chloe has developed a bit of the stranger danger - she will look at people she doesn't really know, but they cannot (under any circumstances) touch her. She seemed to recognize him and let him hold her for quite a while. I think she remembered his voice. How sweet. How do you say thank you to these wonderful people? We will never be able to thank them enough...
As for the GI apt, they've decided to continue her on Prevacid, the other meds, (blah, blah, blah) continue Elecare, try to get her to eat more solids, follow up with blood tests when the endo orders more blood tests (so they can all be drawn at the same time, since we hate blood draws). They also said they may consider some sort of scope study to see if she has any other "issues" that would contribute to her reflux (allergies, etc). It would be done (no) in the hospital (no) under sedation (big no). I told her that since Chloe is gaining weight consistently (17 pounds!) and growing (25 inches long!) and not displaying any sort of discomfort, I didn't really see the need of another (effing) test. We will see how she does for the next few months and if we don't see an improvement in her reflux, they will do the test. (sheesh). Chloe is in the 50th percentile for weight on a regular chart. Woo-hoo, she's finally on the charts!
*I'm watching the news right now re the controversy re the silver medal for Liukin in the uneven bars. They are interviewing people at "Pete's Brewery"...seriously, what do these guys at the brewery know about gymnastics scoring???*

I enjoy reading about Chloe's progress~the stories usually bring a tear to my eye. She's come so far! You are one strong woman to have gone through that experience. It is amazing what these little people can teach us.

Thanks for your comment also; I appreciated it!

Mandy, I just found your blog and thought I'd say hello! I'm glad Miss Chloe is making progress and we'll keep her in our prayers. I, too, am thankful for the more personable doc's out there that have taken time to love their patients. Valerie (Hardwick) Potterf
